Udunami
Udunami are fierce-some serpentine predators that stalk Amajima's surrounding waters. They are highly intelligent, and often seem to delight in the chaos and destruction they cause. Many sailors who have survived having their boat swarmed by these diminutive yet deadly creatures claim that they attacked with military coordination. Udunami can shoot shards of ice with deadly precision and their icy, needle-like teeth can rip through the hulls of wooden ships with ease. However, alone, Udunami are much less threatening and it is even said that when encountered as such, they seem docile. Chronikinologists have theorized that there is some sort of enraging effect that takes place when multiple Udunami gather together.
Fortunately for the fishermen of Amajima, Udunami are rarely encountered on the ocean's surface. It's believed that they spend most of their time submerged deep within the icy depths. Though bonding with one presents a tumultuous challenge, many young Amajima Archivists seek them out for their power and ferocity.
Fractured form
A Fractured Udunami is small enough to be mistaken for an eel until it turns. Its banded body trails long barbels, and it keeps to the cold depths, surfacing only to hunt or when others of its kind gather.
Balanced form
Grown long enough to wrap a fishing skiff, a Balanced Udunami no longer needs a swarm to be dangerous. The ice it shoots comes in volleys now, and the cold it carries follows it up from the depths.
Fabled form
Fabled Udunami are the sea serpents of Amajima's oldest tales. A single one can freeze a strait, and the coordination its lesser kin show in swarms is turned inward into a cold, patient intelligence.
